LCpl Jason Burnett, USMC, was the first Osceola County resident killed in the line of duty serving our country during the “War on Terrorism/Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Jason proudly served his country and his God.  Jason was assigned to the 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force out of Camp Lejeune, N.C.  According to his company commander, Jason earned a reputation as an extremely dependable and hardworking Marine.  He had a rare quality of being smart and hard.  He loved what he was doing and wanted to be the best at everything he did. He was also thankful for being a Marine and felt his experiences in the Marine Corps made him more humble and thankful of his life. His excellent performance earned him the privilege of being his tank platoon commander’s driver.  Jason had talked about the positive changes and his desires of helping the Iraqi citizens

 

However on May 11, 2006 during a combat mission in Anbar Providence, Iraq a tragic accident claimed his life along with three other Marines from Company A, 2nd Tank Battalion.

 

Jason was a graduate of St. Cloud High School, Florida in 2004 and was a lettered athlete.  He enjoyed all outdoor activities and spending time with his family.  Before graduation he pre-enlisted into the Marine Corps confident he could live up to the Marines expectations.  LCpl Jason Burnett grew up in Osceola County, Florida where his family still resides.  This event is dedicated to the memory of LCpl Jason Burnett, USMC.
